The well-known Geranium essential oil is obtained from the plant known as Pelargonium odorantissimum and is of the Geraniaceae family. It has been extracted from a different plant than its cousin, rose geranium oil, and this more expensive oil is further been extracted from the Pelargonium graveolens. It is a smelling oil that has a floral aroma with a hint of mint. And when is obtained from the plant called Odorantissimum, it has a slight apple undertone, whereas, on the other hand, the graveolens oil contains a rosier aroma. This hairy perennial shrub is often used in the hedgerows and normally stands up to about one meter high i.e. 3 feet. This well-known shrub has pointed leaves, serrated at the edges, and has pinkish-white colored flowers. In early times this shrub was planted around the house in order to keep the evil spirits at bay. The leaves and stalks of the shrub are being used for the extraction, and the oil is derived from the steam distillation process.
